| “TEVIE
OUT BUT NOT DOWN” The FA Cup dream for Teversal turned out to be just a snooze, but a workmanlike performance should have at least given them a replay against a Tipton Town side that plays its football at a step higher in the Aspire Midland Football Alliance Division 1. The tempo of the game was set in the first five minutes when both sides created openings, with the Tevie Boys opening effort coming when Gee-Pemberton when he nipped in to steal the ball from Parker and from a wide position whipped an effort across the home goal, marginally wide of the far post. In the 3rd minute a Michael Lyall corner found Atkins who’s header bounced to safety off the Tipton bar. In the following two minutes Nathan Jones showed his intentions for Tipton by latching onto a Bowen through ball only to be denied by an excellent save by Herring. The lively striker then produced a snap shot which Herring gathered at ease by the foot of his near post. After the lively start the game continued at the lively and entertaining pace with both sides creating chances without testing either Custodian. Teversal however did go closest to opening the scoring after 31 minutes when another Lyall corner wasn’t dealt and Gee-Pemberton cushioned a header past the stranded Jenkins with the Tipton Keeper thankful of the goal line clearance from Mosedale. With the half time score line remaining unchanged, the entertainment was far better than the 0-0 may have indicated and the visitors may have been the unhappier of the two sides after going close twice from Lyall’s corners and then losing Ross Henshaw to a hamstring injury at the break. The second half continued in much the same vain, with the home side raising the tempo slightly with a couple of rash challenges leading to yellow cards. The Tevie defence managed to handle this but the introduction of Morgan for Sanga saw a more industrious work rate that added to the pressure on the visitors. Again the Tevie boys held firm until the 82nd minute when Morgan intercepted a Goodacre pass before starting a neat passing move down the right flank with Mosedale then feeding the sub who in turn squared to Jones who had the honour to tap home the opener from six yards. The goal was hard on the visitors, so when Jones managed to put the icing on the cake on 90 minutes with an excellent finish, it put an harsh reflection on the game from a Teversal point of view and ended any hope the Tevie Boys had of getting the Tipton side back to Carnarvon Street for a deserved replay. Tipton now go on to face Loughborough Dynamos in the Preliminary Round on 30th August. Teversal next game is with Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in the KoolSport Northern Counties East League League Cup on Tuesday 19th August 2008, kick off 7:45pm. This is followed by another home game on Saturday, when Glasshoughton Welfare visit Carnarvon Street, kick off 3:00pm. ==================== |
