| “Tevie – It’s Not Good Enough” After an excellent first half to the season, Teversal put in a performance against Worsbrough that wasn’t good enough and saw the Carnarvon Street club reach a now low for the season. Since their last win in the league on the 5th January, there has been 5 draws and 4 defeats, with three of those defeats coming in the last 7 days. On Saturday a Worsbrough Bridge side came to Teversal on their best run of results for the season and played with a desire and confidence that a winning streak gives you, but even taking that into account they must have been surprised on how easy it was to collect the three points against a Teversal side that lacked all the qualities the visitors had in abundance. The writing was on the wall from the off, when after only three minutes a ball into the space behind the home side saw Hitchen seize the ball with time and space to pick out a low cross to Pleasants to get the slightest touch to guide the ball past the stranded Herring. Teversal cause wasn’t helped when Tighe was injured and to be replaced by Lyall after a heavy collision with the perimeter fence and pathway. Worsbrough took advantage to allow the home side to have large spells of possession, but due to the lack of urgency or the unwillingness to chase down the less than inch perfect pass made defending easy for the visitors. Add the industrious work rate of Gallagher and Beevers the Bridgers looked dangerous on every advance forward. Beevers should have doubled the lead on 41 minutes when Gallagher laid his strike partner in with an excellent ball, but the tall striker woefully fired high and wide. So when the roles were reversed when Beevers flicked on to Gallagher it looked odds on that striker would finish, but the exquisite lob clipped the bar and went out to safety. On the stroke of half time, the lead was doubled and the old football classic saying “you earn your own luck” was clearly demonstrated when an attempted clearance ricocheted to Beevers to fire home to make it a comfortable 2-0 half time lead to the visitors. The second half continued within the same vain and it was painfully woeful to see the home side going through the motions with WBA quite content to keep their shape and pick the rich pickings that was on offer. The only surprise was that visitors didn’t capitalise on this more and it took until the 84th minutes to extend the lead, when Jackson sent the impressive Gallagher clear to calmly finish past the stranded Herring to make it 3-0. Two minutes later it could have been four, when Beevers headed effort from a corner was headed off the line by Hudson. With games coming thick and fast, Teversal have opportunities to hopefully bring back some of the early promise, with the Wilkinson Sword Trophy Final this month becoming a focal point to salvage something from the season. Teversal’s next game is at home on Tuesday 11-03-08 when Rossington Main are the visitors, kick off 7.45pm. On Saturday they travel to face Borrowash Victoria, with a 3.00pm kick off at the Robinson Bowl, leaving Carnarvon Street at 1.00pm. |
