Disappointed With A Point” The strong winds blowing through the City of Leeds and from one end of the immaculate pitch at home of Farsley Celtics Throstle Nest ground, was certain to play a part in the game. But it must be said not in a manner that you would have expected with both sides playing their best football against the blustery conditions. It was the Tevie boys playing with the wind behind them and started brightly, so it was a bit of a shock when on their first foray forward that Mets took the lead on 6 minutes. A neat passing move down the visitors left saw Russell deliver a testing cross that was cleared out to Harrison who calmly took a touch before powerfully firing goal-wards a powerful drive that took an unavoidable deflection off Tighe to leave Wilson stranded as the ball found the net at the foot of the post. Dean Short thought he had pulled the scores level only a minute later when his glancing header from Lyalls free kick left Le Tissier well beaten, by the Assistant Referee picked up that the timing of the run was slightly to quick and was ruled out for offside. Teversal continued to press, but over hit passes when in promising positions, prevented them testing Le Tissier in the home goal enough times. On the opposite side of the coin, Mets looked a constant threat on the break with Ryan proving a handful for the visitor’s backline, especially with the impressive Simon Armstrong picking out quality passes for the strikers to keep Holmes and Gavin Short on their toes. The only downside of the half was three needless bookings, two for Carnegie Paul Collins (delaying restart of the game, which was harsh and proved costly later in the game), Neil Crosby (kicking the ball away) and one for Teversal Richard Giles (late challenge). After going at the break feeling they had not made the best of the conditions, Teversal came out knowing that they would have to put in a disciplined second half to earn anything against their host. But they would have expected to remain in control in the manner that they did, playing a neat, precise and patient passing game. On 60 minutes, Teversal finally gained some reward for their efforts when a hotly disputed penalty was won, Walker picked the ball up out on the right and his cross was handled by Paul Collins, controversy followed, firstly a second yellow for the full back which saw the compulsory red follow, and secondly the home side argued it was outside the box. Once it was settled down and three ball changes, Dean Short kept his calm to clinically fire home the spot kick to make it 1-1. Carnegie sacrificed their wide attacking options to batten down the hatches, with Harrison and Russell being replaced by Wildman and Elliot. But the pattern of the game continued with Teversal playing the better football, but Carnegie looking a threat on the break. The visitors could and possible should have won the game with the chances they created, with Thorpe and Short going close on numerous occasions, even in the three added minutes, the chances went flying across the Mets goal, crying out for that telling touch. On the whole and in the manner the game went Carnegie will also feel they could have claimed all three points, but on reflection they will be the happier of the two sides to have collected the point. Teversal entertain Staveley MW at Carnarvon Street next weekend with a 3.00pm kick off. That will be followed by a trip to Gedling Town on Tuesday 2nd February 2008 for a 7.45pm kick off in the Notts FA Senior Cup 3rd Round tie. |
