| "TOP
BILLING : TOP GAME" This game received top billing from some quarters and it certainly produced a top game that the paying spectator will have left the game having fully received value for money. Dinnington arrived at Carnarvon Street with an impressive 4 straight wins in difficult games. Firstly they beat Unibond side Frickley Athletic in the County Cup 3-0, they then beat Premier Division side Mickleover Sports 4-2 away in the League Cup and then two massive home victories in the league beating two promotion favourites in Tadcaster Albion 2-0 and then an impressive 5-2 victory over Rainworth MW. Add to that Teversal haven’t lost in their last 7 games provided to be an excellent ingredient for entertainment, especially with an impressive Refereeing performance from Steve Smith and his Assistants. The football played was very intensive with both sides playing the football you would expect and it was certainly a game for the purest in the early exchanges with both sides cancelling each other out with the quality football. The first goalmouth action came from the visitors on 25 minutes when Allott produced a powerful snap shot that Wilson was equal to in the home goal. Teversal’s first action of note came from Townroe’s free kick, which found Giles ghosting into the box, but the midfielder’s glancing header went wide of the mark on 38 minutes. A minute later Lindley produced a speculative effort for Dinno that had Wilson scurrying across his goal to see the effort go marginally wide. Teversal were the first to reap reward for their efforts when a neat move finished with Hudson produced an exquisite turn and pass that opened the visitors defence for Walker to latch on to that quality ball to fire past the stranded Osbourne in the visitors goal and give the Tevie boys a 41st minute lead that they would take into the break. The entertainment continued in the second half and it was no surprise when Dinnington picked up their reward for their efforts on 54 minutes when Allott powerfully headed goal-wards from a corner with Somerset nipping in to get a touch that wrong footed Wilson in his endeavours to preserve his side’s lead. This started a goal rush with 4 in 8 minutes to add substance to the quality of the entertainment. Teversal at no time went behind in this period and on 57 minutes went back in front when Woodcock latched onto another excellent ball from Hudson to calmly take the ball in his stride to finish with a low drive across goal to make it 2-1. 59 minutes it was 2-2, an excellently weighted pass by Lindley was just out of the reach of Short’s attempted block and Blythen emphatically finished with a powerful drive past Wilson. On 62 minutes the Tevie Boys restored their lead, when out of character with the game, a Tighe cross in to the visitor’s box saw Osbourne coming to collect, but the Keeper spilled the ball and dropped it right to the feet of Marc Scott to calmly tap home into the empty net to make it 3-2. Teversal looked like they had stemmed the threat, but the impressive pairing of Blythen and Lynam was a constant thorn in the Tevie Boys side with the game swinging from end to end. It was inevitable that the way this game was going that more was to follow and on 80 minutes it did, Lynam receiving the ball before turning Holmes and going down under the defenders challenge to claim a stone wall penalty. The lethal striker climbed to his feet and brushed himself down to clinically fire the spot kick into the bottom corner leaving Wilson no chance as the score board ticked over to 3-3. The game continued into an action packed added on 4 minutes and Dinnington must have thought they had stole all three points when Haigh delivered a superb cross to Blythen who fired in at goal with Wilson making a stunning point blank save to collect a point for the Tevie Boys. On reflection both sides left the park disappointed at not picking up the three points, but in fairness a share of the spoils is possibly the best outcome in a game that was a credit to the Northern Counties East League Division One. Teversal now travel up to Hull on Saturday (01-12-07) to play yet another promotion hopeful in Hall Road Rangers, leaving Carnarvon Street at 12.15pm. |
