“TEVIE CONTINUE TO SURPRISE”

Worsbrough were defending an unbeaten home record when Teversal arrived to Park Road to produce a workmanlike performance that was to take the impressive home record from their host.

The early signs were that WBA would hold on to that record after a bright start down the slope, but the final pass prevented them from being a threat. In fact it was Teversal who created the first opening when Hudson back-heel found Woodcock who in turn set up Thorpe to fiercely fire marginally over the bar on 7 minutes.

WBA response was immediate when an excellent run and shot by Lee Poskitt saw the lively winger’s powerful drive smash against the ball and bounce to safety, with Wilson well beaten in the visitors goal.

Teversal then took control and took the lead on 13 minutes when the ball was worked across the 18 yard box before Giles picked up the ball, side stepped a challenge before superbly firing a left footed effort into the top corner from 20 yards out, with Stainthorpe not even making a token gesture to save it.

If the first goal was full of quality, the second was a tail of woe for Worsbrough only 5 minutes later. An excellent ball forward by Tighe saw Woodcock head on Thorpe, but McFadyen read this superbly and tried to play a cross field ball to the unmarked full back, but sliced the ball that spun past the stranded Stainthorpe to nestle in the bottom corner of the WBA net to make it 2-0.

It could have been more before the break, but solid defending and wasted chances saw the Tevie Boys having to be happy with the 2-0 score-line going into half time.

The visitor’s found out that kicking down the slope brought a different challenge, with most probing balls running down the slope. This became more evident from a defensive point of view, with WBA now looking more prominent going forward. It took an excellent second half display from Wilson in the Teversal goal to maintain the lead with no fewer than three excellent saves.

Two of those came within the a minute on 67 an 68 minutes when Wilkinson was sent clear, but Wilson was alert and quick off his line to make a stunning block. In identical circumstances it was the WBA architect who got the end of break, but game Wilson made an equally impressive save to maintain the 2-0 lead.

With WBA controlling play and on 74 minutes Wilkinson again being denied by Wilson after getting the better of Goodacre, Teversal started to look dangerous again on the break, with Rathbone having a stunning volley in the back of the net, but the effort was ruled out due to an earlier infringement.

WBA finally got reward for their efforts on 87 minutes when the impressive manage to break in to the box to round Wilson before firing home into the empty net. But the expected onslaught was easily managed and even with an added 5 minutes due to an injury to McFadyen, the result never looked under threat and Teversal continue to surprise a lot of people by maintaining their position of second in the table.

Teversal’s next game is Saturday 3rd November 2007 when Borrowash Victoria are the visitors to Carnarvon Street, kick off 3.00pm.
