| The Mansfield Chad reported this week that Teversal had achieved their highest position ever in the NCEL and arrived at Inkersall Road in 3rd position in the league. Staveley lined up with Sean Lee replacing Jamie Jones who was rested and Jonathan Wall and Ben Howard dropped down to the bench with Callum Flannigan and Paul Clements coming into the side otherwise it was the same side that lost 3-0 to Barton Town Old Boys FC on Saturday. Unlike Saturday when Staveley went down to a first minute goal it was Staveley who went ahead in the 5th minute. Callum Flannigan looped a neat ball over the defence and Ryan Damms beat the right back and crossed neatly for Lee Gregory to put The Welfare ahead. Staveley had started superbly well and in the 26th minute Paul Clements out on the right sent a superb ball through to Lee Gregory who chested the ball and then unleashed a superb volley over the keeper to make it 2-0 in the 26th minute. In the 34th minute Teversal pulled one back as the ball was pulled back from the right with the Teversal's Barry Stokes coming across the defence to hit the ball home from the edge of the area. The game was a great spectacle and in the 44th minute Callum Flannigan stepped past 4-defenders in the Teversal area and crashed the ball home to give Staveley a 3-1 half time lead. Staveley thought they had made it 4-1 in the 55th minute when Ryan Damms hit the ball home but the assistant referee had judged him to be offside. Teversal were pushing Staveley back with the wind at their backs. In the 81st minute a freak goal got Teversal back into the game. Sean Lee's attempted clearance was well struck only for the ball to hit Teversal's Mark Rathbone on the knee and the ball looped over Joel Armstrong and into the net; a cruel blow to Staveley. In the 85th minute Teversal scored another odd goal. A free -kick from the right by Michael Lyall looped over Joel Armstrong with the assistance of the wind to make it 3-3. Staveley pushed for the winner with a string of corners in the last 5-minutes but to no avail. Nigel and Don were unhappy with the second half performance. Perhaps the two odd goals had changed the game and that Staveley were unlucky not to hold onto the 3-points. A point put Staveley into 4th place and with games against Worsbrough and Borrowash, Staveley would hope to pick up further points in their quest for NCEL consolidation. |
