| “TOP QUALITY” Having had the desire and commitment questioned the previous weekend, Teversal played their part in a quality game that could have gone either way and should have possible ended all square to put a fair reflection on a great game. The game on the whole though was a credit to the Northern Counties East League. The intentions were shown from the off, with the home side going close twice within the first minute. Firstly 16-year old debutant Marc Rathbone chased down what looked like a loss cause, but nipped in to round Ryder, but with the angle tight he pulled back to Woodcock who ended up being hounded out by the pure volume of defenders the visitors had got back. Also in the first minute Scott sent in a cross that Woodcock powerfully headed goal wards that Ryder made the first of numerous top class saves. On the quarter of an hour mark Taddy produced their first opening of note when a crisp move down the Tevie right saw Hill denied by Wilson who demonstrated he was in top form in the home goal too. Ten minutes later Thornton unleashed a fierce low drive but the Teversal Custodian was equal to the effort down low to his right. Hill became the provider for the visitors on 29 minutes when they took the lead, when the striker got the better of Holmes before pulling back an inch perfect ball across the six yard box with Wash on hand to clinically fire home the opener. The remainder of the first half became a bit of a personal dual between Woodcock and Ryder, with Stokes feeding some excellent balls in from the left to the impressive Woodcock only to find Ryder making first class saves to deny him. Teversal were creating chances so when Marc Scott equalised on 40 minutes it was no more than the home side deserved, Lyall picked up the blocked Tighe free kick before an inch perfect cross found the midfielder to powerfully head past the stranded Ryder to level the scores. Both sides were producing good honest open football, a theme that continued in the second half, which the visitors settled into quicker than their host. Again Wilson had to be alert to produce another top draw safe to deny Thornton whose clever attempt looked destined for the bottom corner before the Tevie Keeper got a hand to it on 53 minutes. Then only 2 minutes later from a Teversal corner, The Brewers hit on the break and when Hudson backed off to quell the danger Thornton produced a 35 yard thunderbolt that flew into the top corner beating Wilson’s full length drive. A goal that was equal to any you would have seen on Match Of The Day and worthy of winning any game. Tadcaster must have thought they had enough to hold out and hit Teversal on the break, Teversal took the mantle and threaten on numerous occasions but Ryder was in fine form in the visitors goal and that gave the defence the confidence to apply this rearguard tactic. On 63 minutes Woodcock was released by Rathbone with Woodcock delivering an excellent cross to Stokes who headed marginally wide. With time ticking by and Tadcaster looking like holding onto the win, they failed to deal with a final onslaught in the 89th minute when Scott’s persistence earned him and the Tevie Boys their second goal to make it 2-2. With a draw looking the most likely outcome, 5 minutes added on time was signalled just as Tadcaster restarted the game. So Teversal went in search of the winner, and yet another defensive error allowed Daron Thorpe to mark his debut with an added on time winner with a clinical strike and elevating him to hero status. Congratulations must go to both sides for producing such an entertaining encounter and the Match Officials shouldn’t go without comment for their positive contributions to the game. Teversal’s next game is a home game on Tuesday night when League Championship favourites Gedling Town, kick off at 7.45pm. Then, on Saturday, a trip up to Doncaster to face Rossington Main, leaving Carnarvon Street at 12.15pm. |
