“TEVIE DISASTER”

Leeds Met Carnegie came to Teversal in search of their first points of the season, and at the end of the 90 minutes you were left wondering why, because they took all three points against a Teversal side that looked like they was ones needing a result.

The first half was an even affair with both sides playing some decent football and there were no signs of what was to come in the second half. Regarding opportunities on goal, these were at a premium even though the early signs saw the visitors Neil Crosby firing a thunderous effort from 30 yards that smashed against the bar after only 3 minutes.

Teversal didn’t create a clear opening, but Woodcock looked to have earned a penalty on 34 minutes when breaking into the box only for Thackeray to haul the striker back and then make a timely challenge with the Referee waving play on to the disappointment of the home side. It must have been the spur and belief that Leeds Met Carnegie was looking for because they upped the tempo after this and only 8 minutes later Crosby delivered an inch perfect cross to Harrison at the far post, but the Student’s Striker failed to make a notable contact with the effort going aimlessly wide.

After a period of sustained pressure and deep into added on time, Leeds Met managed to take the lead when Crosby calmly fired past the stranded Wilson to give the visitors after the ball ricocheted around the Tevie 18 yard box before landing at the feet of the calm Crosby to finish. A lead that was just about right at the end of first half that saw Leeds Met grow in confidence and the Tevie Boys worryingly losing theirs.

The second half saw a team that’s struggled since the start of the season, make hay while the sun shines because everything they attempted came off and add that to the lack-lustre and at best disastrous performance from a home side that simply didn’t show any desire or comment. All this added up to the Leeds Met side getting a result and score line that their performance deserved.

Things started to really deteriorate for the Tevie Boys on 51 minutes, when Harrison’s free kick out on the left touch line was allowed to drift into the box to be missed by everyone and nestle into the net at the far post to make it 2-0. The third goal came only 4 minutes later and really did sum up the Teversal performance. A corner was delivered into the box and at third attempt the home side cleared it to the edge of the box, O’Brien had time to pick out his shot that he miss hit only for the sliced effort landing at the feet of the unmarked Neil Crosby who coolly finished to make it 3-0.

The confidence was now oozing out of the University side and the game was over on 57 minutes when Harrison waltzed into the box before finishing with aplomb to make it 4-0. The now rampant Leeds side took full control of the game and easily dispelled any token advances by the home side.

A surprising factor was that it took until the 92nd minute before the final goal arrived, O’Brien being the benefactor of a neat passing move before Forrest sent in the killer ball to O’Brien who clinically fire past Wilson to finish the rout and inflict the biggest defeat on the home side so far this season.

Football occasionally throws up weird and strange results and Teversal will be hoping this is one of those such results, one thing for sure is that the level commitment will be tested to ensure that is the case. For Leeds Met Carnegie that certainly took full advantage and deserved their victory as the score-line reflects.

Teversal’s next game is an FA Carlsberg Vase tie away at Calverton Miners Welfare with the kick off being at 3.00pm.
