| “CUP
WIN FOR TEVIE” The rearranged Wilkinson Sword tie saw Tadcaster making one of their longest journey’s in the league to visit Carnarvon Street and then enduring 120 minutes after yet another 2-2 scoreline after 90 minutes in Cup game for the Tevie Boys. The travelling certainly didn’t affect the Brewers who simply played the home side of the park for the first 15 minutes, but resolute defending managed to keep the visitors at bay until the 16th minute when a well worked corner saw Cressey delivering a cross for Ellis to powerfully head home to give the visitors a deserved lead. Ironically, this was the kick up the butt the home side needed and they started to compete and turn the game into a competitive affair. With the game evenly matched, Teversal had a period of sustained pressure that eventually lead to the equaliser on 29 minutes, Tighe sending in a decisive ball through to Atkins who calmly finished past the advancing Ryder in the visitors goal. The second half was like a mirror image of the first, again Tadcaster dominated the early exchanges and again they scored to reward their period of domination, Gray picking the ball up with time and space to attack the Teversal goal before smartly slipping the ball past the stranded Wilson to make it 2-1 on 51 minutes. It could have been 3-1 only two minutes later when Watson fired in a fierce effort that Wilson saved, only for Gray to tap home the loose ball, but the Brewers striker was adjudged to have been offside from the original effort. But again Teversal dusted themselves down after the slow start and hauled themselves back again and could have levelled on 63 minutes when Lyall produced an excellent run and cross to Gamble, but the Teversal marksman put his effort wide of the mark. The home side huffed and puffed and did get the equaliser on 74 minutes, Clarke finished after latching onto Atkins through ball to set up the potential of extra time again for the Tevie Boys. Michael Lyall went on another mazy run creating his own opening and when he lifted it over the advancing Ryder it look like the home would have the lead for the first time on the night, but it drifted marginally wide of the far post with 11 minutes remaining and so the extra period also drifted in too. After two slow starts Teversal final came out fighting and within 3 minutes Hudson’s defence splitting pass found Clarke who took the ball in his stride before rocketing home what turned out to be the winner for the Tevie Boys. Both sides continued to play good open football, and created openings that could have seen the score board ticking over. On 99 minutes, Taddy thought they had pulled level when Wilson spilled Thornton’s powerful effort and again was on hand to tap home the loose ball but it was chalked off again because the striker was offside from Thornton’s effort. Teversal went through on the back of the extra time goal, and the visitor’s went home knowing the game could have gone either way, but it’s Teversal who move into the Quarter-Finals. Teversal’s next game is on Saturday 1st September 2007 when Rainworth Miners Welfare visit Carnarvon Street for the FA Cup Sponsored by E-On Preliminary Round tie, kick off 3.00pm. |
